2010
Last year as a class we all contributed to our Media Studies project, which was the opening to a situation comedy, based in our school. We each played unique characters. My role was the main character. After filming it we split up into separate groups and edited it differently adding our own music and titles.

Today in Class we studied Nils Abden Opliv who is director of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”. We studied the different camera angles used during the opening of the film, such as the shot of the back of girl to add suspense and mystery to the character, the camera follows the character walking through an underground tunnel at night, and the close up shots of the elderly man opening a parcel. There are different shots of his knife slicing through the paper and his reactions.

Today I created a blog that will help me record all my research and planning online. I am linked to my class blog and my friends. It will be very useful to be able to link up with the rest of my group even when I am not in class as I will be able to see what they have planned online. My teacher will check my blog several times a week.
A group of friends are hanging around with each other at night (or dawn). They are messing around in the park and filming themselves. They climb over the fence, and look over at the playground. A dark figure appears to be on the swings. The boys look at it for a while. One of the boys goes over to the figure. About 10 meters from the figure it moves, the boy collapses and the friends start to run away. After about 30 seconds of running camera is dropped onto the floor. After this the scene cuts to the camera on the floor the next morning, they realise their friend is missing and debate whether or not to go looking for their friend. In the end they agree, and the opening ends with them climbing back over the fence.

Thursday 20th October
I visited the Art of the Title website (http://www.artofthetitle.com/) to look at some of the openings.
Throughout this opening, all you see is old fashioned paper with words and numbers being typed onto it in black ink. All either referrencing to the cast or the number 23. Some key words are written in red ink. Also, the paper is frequently dampened with blood. You only see three colours, red, white and black, the simplicity of the colours
emphasises the blunt horror.
emphasises the blunt horror.
Throughout this opening it shows short clips of footage, it quickly flicks from one scene to the next giving a sense of unease. Also, the writing is written in blood red ink and wipes away. The main title colours are red and black, these colours represent danger and evil. The clips are so short that you can barely see what's going on, this creates unease and a sense of not knowing what's happening. The music is the complete opposite of the genre, it sounds more happy where as the clips being shown are dark and gory, this creates confusion between the senses again aiding the sense of unease.
Above is my version of our opening sequence.
In our opening we plan to show the credits first then a short clip of film.
Monday 7th November
Today my group looked at a few film openings for inspiration, meanwhile I started drawing out the story board for our opening.
Tuesday 8th November
After a quick discussion, we came up with some new ideas to build up suspense and tension in our opening, such as quick transitions between the victims and the villain. We figured that quick transitions would be a good element to have in our opening.
Thursday 10th November
Today we decided there would be an anti-climax in our opening. I began work on my story board.
Monday 14th November
Over the weekend I completed the story board. Today the others reviewed it and agreed with it. I outlined my story board with black pen to make it stand out when we would scan it in. The others looked at editing tutorials in Adobe after effects.
We have also altered our opening abit:
A strange girl is sat on a swing, a group of friends are walking together into the park laughing and joking. The girl hears them. Suddenly one of the friends is missing, the others call for him/her. Suspense builds as someone creeps up behind one of the friends, the friend turns round and realises it's only the friend who went missing (the anti-climax). As soon as they start to feel relief, the friend who went missing suddenly collapses from a heart attack. The girl on the swing starts swinging, one of the friends looks over at the swing and realises the swing is swinging by itself.
Tuesday 15th November
I finished off outlining the storyboard in black pen and scanned it into the computer.

Today we discussed what day we would start filming. We planned on filming tomorrow.
Tuesday 29th November
Since most of our actors were unable to bring their own clothes to school today, our filming was post-ponhed until Thursday.
Thursday 1st December
We filmed almost all of our scenes today. This weekend we plan on filming more scenes. Although, we need to get ahold of a night gown and a worn out teddy bear. One of my collegues said he can provide a teddy bear so I will try and find a night gown.
Thursday 8th December
We continued to film through out our lesson and finished filming all the scenes we could. Also, today I recieved the template powerpoint for our final Evaluation and filled in as much as I could.
Wednesday 21st December
Since it is the Christmas holidays, today we met up at the park (which is the locations we decided to film at) and finished off the rest of our filming. We had some trouble trying to create a quite atmosphere due to the general public and noise from the traffic.
Thursday 12th January
Today in the lesson we continued to rearrange the clips we recently uploaded to the computer. We've managed to get most of them in the correc order. ISince I was free this lunch time, I came back and continued editing and rearranging the clips, I also experiment with lighting affects to make it look eerie.

Today, since we've altered our title sequence (by adding in more swing shots and having more 'dutch tilts'), we as a group designed a new title sequence which consists of 9 shots. I have outlined the pictures and added in the appropriate text: (It will be up shortly, I just need to scan it in)

Today, (since I was unable to attend), my group filmed the Banshee's face whilst netted silk was gracefully being thrown over the camera. They transferred the footage onto iMovie where they edited it to make it more dark and sinister. For example, they added a transition from when the Banshee has her eyes closed to when she opens them. Later, (when I was available) we discussed where we would place these clips. We agreed that they should be spaced out more throughout the opening. We also contemplated adding in a scene where the Banshee turns around and screams into the camera, we have yet to decide where in the opening we would place this scene.
